Hello! I’m Dr. Maria Neiers (she/her) - Welcome to this space!

I am a Licensed Clinical Psychologist with specialized training in perinatal mental health, trauma, and early intervention. I have experience working with individuals across the lifespan in both individual and dyadic therapy, with a particular passion for supporting women and families during the perinatal and postpartum period, as well as individuals who have experienced complex trauma.

Much of my work centers on individuals navigating pregnancy and postpartum transitions, grief and loss, and the emotional complexities of parenting, especially within high-stress medical environments such as the NICU or in the context of complicated fetal or medical diagnoses. My clinical expertise also includes supporting adolescents and adults in managing anxiety, depression, trauma, and the lasting impacts of both early life experiences and role-transition stressors.

My clinical identity has been deeply shaped by my work in pediatric and perinatal settings, where I have supported caregivers and families through some of their most vulnerable and uncertain moments. These experiences have strengthened my commitment to trauma-informed, compassionate care that honors both individual resilience and systemic challenges. I approach my work with an awareness of how identity, culture, and context shape each person’s experience, and I strive to create a space that feels collaborative, respectful, and attuned.

As a white, cisgender, neurodivergent (late-diagnosed ADHD), and bisexual woman, I am committed to ongoing self-reflection and cultural humility. I aim to thoughtfully understand and honor both the differences and shared experiences between myself and my clients.

My therapeutic approach is grounded in trauma-informed and relational frameworks, integrating elements of attachment-based work, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), among others. I place a strong emphasis on understanding how relationships, past and present, and broader systems impact emotional wellbeing. In our work together, we may explore themes such as identity shifts in parenthood, grief and loss, and navigating uncertainty, while building skills for coping, meaning-making, and reconnecting with personal values. I aim to support clients in developing both insight and practical tools, while fostering a sense of agency and self-compassion.

I believe deeply in the importance of this work and feel continually honored to walk alongside clients during meaningful and often complex life transitions. Outside of my clinical work, I enjoy exploring new cities, returning to my favorite coffee shop in Chicago (shoutout to Tasa in Humboldt Park) when I can, posting LOTR memes, and spending time with my partner and our cats, Maisey and Bean.
