Hi there! I'm Dr. Amara Tanweer. Thank you so much for sharing this space with me.
✻ Bio: I am a pre-licensed Clinical Psychologist based in the United States. As a Pakistani American raised in predominantly white communities, I often experienced a deep sense of confusion and felt caught between identities - neither fully belonging to mainstream American spaces nor fully connected to my Pakistani heritage. While this was a challenging period, it ultimately prompted meaningful self-exploration around my identity and fostered a strong appreciation for working with BIPOC individuals.
✻ Can Provide Therapy In: IL
✻ Specialities: I have experience working with individuals across a wide range of concerns, identities, and age groups. While I enjoy addressing a variety of issues, I am especially passionate about supporting clients with difficulties related to trauma, attachment, self-esteem, negative body image, life transitions, college student mental health, anxiety, disordered eating, and obsessions and compulsions.
✻ Therapy Style: My therapeutic approach is grounded in person-centered and humanistic frameworks, while drawing on a range of interventions tailored to each client's unique needs. I aim to foster a safe, supportive environment where clients can openly express themselves and connect with their emotions, using validation, acceptance, and humor. I often explore how clients make meaning out of their experiences and how they are impacted by life events. Additionally, I help clients develop awareness of their thoughts and behaviors, which often supports a greater sense of control and empowerment. I view clients as the experts of their own lives and value working collaboratively towards creating meaningful change.
✻ Fun Fact: In my free time, I enjoy crafting, watching anime, reading fiction books, and spending time with my cats and huskies. Please give me recommendations for anime and books to look into!
