Hello! I'm Dr. Muneet Kaur Malhi, and I'm so glad you're here!

As a Punjabi Sikh Canadian now living in the United States, I understand how complex it can feel to navigate different cultures, expectations, and parts of your identity.

Our identities don't exist in isolation. The families we grow up in, the communities we belong to, our cultural backgrounds, and the systems we move through all shape how we understand ourselves and relate to the world.

As a cisgender, heterosexual woman, I'm also mindful of how my own identities and lived experiences shape the way I show up in the therapy room. I recognize that my experiences may be different from yours, and I approach those differences with curiosity, respect, and cultural humility.

My work is grounded in an anti-oppressive framework, with an emphasis on empowerment, connection, and communal healing. I want therapy to be a place where you can explore all the different parts of yourself without feeling like you have to leave any of them at the door.

What therapy with me feels like

My approach is rooted in Systems Theory, which recognizes that our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are influenced by the relationships, communities, cultures, and larger systems we're part of.

Rather than looking at your experiences in isolation, we'll get curious about the different environments you move through and how they've shaped your sense of self.

I also incorporate Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you identify your core values, develop psychological flexibility, and make intentional choices that align with what matters most to you.

For clients navigating bicultural identities, our work might involve exploring cultural expectations, enculturation, and what it feels like to move between different worlds. Sometimes the values we've inherited and the values we're developing for ourselves don't fit neatly together. Therapy can give us room to understand those tensions without assuming one part of your identity needs to take priority over another.

I also believe that Western psychological approaches aren't the only ways to understand healing. When appropriate, I integrate traditional healing practices and culturally informed perspectives, offering a decolonized approach that honors different ways of knowing, understanding, and healing.

Throughout our work, I encourage intentionality, curiosity, and a deeper connection to the present moment.

The things we can work through

I have experience supporting individuals across the lifespan through individual, family, and group therapy.

I'm particularly passionate about working with adolescents and young adults who are navigating significant life transitions, developing their identities, and figuring out who they are within the many relationships and communities that shape their lives.

My clinical experience also includes supporting people with:

  • Anxiety and depression

  • Childhood trauma and its lasting effects

  • Cultural identity and bicultural experiences

  • Family and community expectations

  • Identity development and life transitions

  • Conflicting cultural and personal values

Whether you're feeling caught between cultures, questioning expectations you've grown up with, or trying to understand patterns that continue to affect your life, we can explore those experiences together.

My hope is that therapy helps you develop a stronger understanding of yourself while creating space for meaningful, authentic change.

Outside the therapy room

When I'm not working, you'll probably find me exploring Chicago's culinary scene with my partner, reading fantasy romance novels, or spending time with our dog, Jatt.

We're currently based in the West Loop, so there's always somewhere new to eat!

And when I need a little comfort? I'm usually turning to Twilight or a classic 2000s Shah Rukh Khan movie. Some things never get old.

Finding the right therapist is personal.

You deserve a space where you can bring your whole self- your experiences, your identities, your questions, and everything in between.

At Mun & Mind Therapy, we believe the relationship you build with your therapist matters. Whether you're ready to get started or still figuring out what support might look like, we'd love to help you find a good fit.
